Selva Capuzza lies at an altitude of about 120 metres at the start of the moraine amphitheatre, four kilometres south of Lake Garda in the municipality of Desenzano. Two wine stories come together on the estate: that of the Formentini family, who have made wine since 1917, and that of the Hirundo brand from 1908, whose name recalls the swallows that nest above the hills of San Martino della Battaglia. The estate works with native and traditional varieties such as Turbiana, Tuchì, Groppello and Marzemino and produces Lugana, San Martino della Battaglia and Garda Classico.
Guests stay at Borgo San Donino, a large farmstead where seven families lived until the 1950s. It grew up around a pre-Romanesque chapel, the rectory was added in the 15th century, and towards the end of the 18th century the farm reached its present size. Since 2001 it has been restored as faithfully as possible. The apartments have a kitchenette, solid wood furniture and air conditioning; there are deliberately no televisions. A pool lies between a small wood, the vineyard and the old summer stable.
Breakfast and daily cleaning are included. On request the estate arranges wine tastings, guided tours of the cellars and vineyards, guided bike tours over the moraine hills, cooking classes and bicycle hire. According to the website, the restaurant Cascina Capuzza is 870 steps away, a short walk through the vines. The house suits couples and families who want to combine wine, peace and excursions to the southern shore.

On Lake Garda, the choice of shore decides wind, landscape, journey and evening sun. A comparison of the four sides shows which base suits sport, family, wine or peace and quiet.
On Lake Garda, olives grow at one of the northernmost limits of their cultivation, alongside three very different wines. What lies behind Garda DOP, Lugana, Bardolino, Chiaretto and Valtènesi, and how to taste them on the spot.
